New Fifa Council will no longer stay at luxurious Baur au Lac hotel
• Park Hyatt selected as new accommodation for 36-strong council
• Baur au Lac was site of dawn raids in May 2015
The lobby of Zurich’s luxurious Baur au Lac hotel was once the epicentre for a cabal that brought Fifa to its knees and became synonymous with the dramatic police dawn raid that ended its era of dominance in world football.
But as part of an attempt by world football’s governing body to draw a line under its recent past the 36 members of the Fifa Council will no longer stay there when they are in town. The move to the nearby Park Hyatt will save money on a per person basis, though the alternative accommodation will hardly leave them slumming it and its significance is largely symbolic.
